Harvest Day at James Bay Market
Sep 2015
By Jessica Duncan
And, just like that, the most glorious summer on record comes to a close, and Harvest Day is upon us! Mark your calendars for September 12 when you are invited to join the annual Celebration of Abundance at the James Bay Community Market. In the wake of our long, hot summer, this year's Harvest Day promises to offer a particularly grand recognition of all the goodies Nature has to offer.
What is a harvest celebration without a corn boil? The James Bay Community Market board members and amazing volunteers will be selling freshly picked and cooked corn on the cob between 11:00am – 1:30pm. It is highly recommended that you get there early to avoid missing out. If you prefer something sweet, there will also be freshly baked pie for sale by the slice for a mere $3.00. Wine and beer tasting and food sampling will be available throughout the day. There will be free balloons for the children. Hot dogs for purchase, from Married to the Dawg, to Maple Floss and popcorn.
New this year will be the opportunity to name your favourite James Bay Community Market vendor. Loyal market goers spend the season building relationships with the various vendors, visiting their stalls regularly, engaging in conversation, getting to know and appreciate them. On September 12, you will have the opportunity to express your appreciation for the vendor who has made the biggest and/or best impression over the summer months. The winning vendor with receive $50.00 cash, and there will be a draw for a $50.00 voucher of James Bay Market Bucks for the winning customer.
There's no doubt, the James Bay Community Market is a wonderful event, but what makes it so great are the people who support it. The farmers and producers and craftspeople all rely on the dedicated and continued support of the community every year. Harvest Day is our way of saying a hearty thanks to all of you who have made this a truly fantastic market season. We hope you will accept our invitation and help us celebrate the bounty of our beautiful region. Bring the whole family and plan to stay a while to enjoy our local musicians under the band tent while indulging in some delicious food from a selection of food trucks, and supporting your favourite vendors.
