About Us

Our Story

The James Bay Beacon came into being in 1992 as a successor to the time-honoured James Bay News. Volunteers affectionately refer to it as 'The Beacon'.

The trustees and volunteers are committed to voicing the concerns and interests of the residents of James Bay, both individual and corporate, to promote community pride and to educate readers as to their rights and responsibilities. The Beacon is a non-profit organization, which allows it to speak with a voice representative of the people who make up the community of James Bay.

James Bay Beacon - Volunteer

James Bay Beacon welcomes volunteers! We value the talents, skills and knowledge that volunteers bring to the newspaper. Volunteers are recuited on a basis of ability and suitability to perform the task. We offer general orientation about our purpose and information and training to help volunteers fulfill the job description. Volunteers work in a friendly team environment under the direction of the paper's Co-ordinator.

Volunteering is an enjoyable way to make a difference
in the James Bay Community.

Everyone is welcome to attend our monthly Planning Meetings, 7pm on the first Tuesday of each month. Meet other volunteers and find out what is involved and what you might be interested in doing. Or drop in during office hours and speak to the receptionist or the Co-ordinator. (Phone first to confirm.)
