Guess How Much I Love You
Oct 2011
Book Review
By Margaret Hunt
This delightful, heart-warming little children's book was written by Sam McBratney, and illustrated by Anita Jeram, and published in 1994. It has sold more than 20 million copies. You know, love is like that - it tends to spread. It envelops people, it heals hearts, and gives new hope. This little story is about two Nutbrown Hares; one can imagine that they are father and son. They would ask each other, "Guess how much I love you?"
It was almost impossible to find the heights to which they were able to express it. When you truly love someone; you just can't find enough words to express it; but the love shown in this book shows you just how simple, easy and wonderful it is. When my daughter was married many years ago; she and her husband bought this for themselves, and they would read it to each other. Then one year, she sent me the book to tell me how much she loved me. Many of our emails to one another still end - 'with love to my little 'nut brown hare.'
Now my 6 yr old grandson, Reed, quotes to me from this precious little book.
He tells me he loves me all the way to the sky! What more can one ask for? Thanks so much, Sam McBratney!
