Ceramic Blues

He's a blue ceramic elephant

Left standing in the hall

His trunk towards the front door

His tail against the wall

 

He's got white ceramic tassels

And a white cap on his head

A howdah with a pot on it-

The plant in it quite dead

 

Because his trunk is curled up

It's supposed to bring good luck

Well, it hasn't done him any good

It's up alright - but stuck.

 

His eyes are white and unglazed

That's why he never blinks

Sometimes he'd like to roll 'em-

Or wink ceramic winks.

 

But now and then at midnight-

When no one's there to see

He kicks ceramic heels up

And trumpets "I am free!"
