"Plant Study Buddies." Wednesday, 6 April 2011
(Grade 1) Finn Parker: "We thought and thought and decided to plant the exact same garden. My buddy and I planted a couple of ferns and some shrubs."
(Grade 5) Holly Peterson: "We first had a Native Plant Talk given by Todd from Hat. Then we put cardboard pieces down to map out the garden. Then came the mulch that we moved with our wheelbarrow. We were shown paint chips and given twenty minutes to match colours of the different types of flowers, that Emily Carr loved."
(Grade 3) Madeleine Roth: "My buddy and I scattered the seeds under the old oak tree. Emily Carr's favourite flower was the fawn lily. We worked with our plant studies buddies all afternoon, planting native plants."
(Grade 4) Kai Velling: "We planted native species to attract native bugs and birds and to make the world a better place."
(Grade 3) Ellery Messinger-Ford: "We hope for the future and for the native plants to keep living for a long time. Our school's reclaiming the garden from the plantings planned over the years to come. We want our playground to be a safe happy place and to be close to nature."
