JBNA “Bikes & Beyond” Active Transportation Committee

484 people participated in the JBNA “How do you get around James Bay” survey. Thank you to all.

The JBNA Bikes and Beyond Committee is working on a report, to be completed early in 2017. At that point the next phase of the active transportation initiative will be developed.

Committee members have entered the information from the many ‘paper’ surveys collected from the boxes hosted by several organizations/businesses in James Bay.

Thank you to JB Community Project, Serious Coffee, JB Community School Centre, Bird Cages Confectionary, Niagara Grocery, JB New Horizons, and Imagine Studio Café for hosting the collection boxes. And thank you to the JB Beacon for publishing the survey in the October Beacon.

A quick glance at the submissions tells us that 431 of the respondents are residents in James Bay. About 17 percent of respondents work in James Bay and 17 percent volunteer in James Bay. 14 percent of respondents are, or live with someone with mobility challenges; 16 percent have children 15 years old or younger living in their homes. The majority of respondents also contributed comments.

In addition to statistical analysis of how we “get around James Bay”, the over 500 comments will be assessed.

Stay tuned for a further article in a JB Beacon issue in early 2017.
