Poem - The Painted Piano
Oct 2016
By Hazel Ross
...so that his inner self breaks forth in activity and the activity
Is drawn into his inwardness - Eckhart
Situated on rugged rocks facing the ocean
Sits an old outdoor painted piano
As sturdy as the distant mountains
An old sailor dreaming of his years at sea
Starts to play music bursting
Forth with fervour, lively with
A steady beat we share
His enthusiasm and energy
To set our feet tapping
As the music increases in liveliness
Oblivious to the worn yellow keys
We are beguiled by the rhythm of music
No matter how it is presented
This sunny day in a syncopated minor key
Seduces us to listen bereft of pretence
Setting the mood for a fun-filled day.
