Here are three Halloween treats to make for the youngsters (or yourselves) using Rice Krispies - courtesy of Allrecipes on the internet:



¼ cup packed brown sugar

¼ cup corn syrup

¼ cup crunchy peanut butter

1 ½ cups Rice Krispies

¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.


Combine sugar, syrup and peanut butter in large saucepan. Heat over medium heat for 1 minute, stirring to dissolve sugar. Press mixture into muffin tins. Melt chocolate in medium bowl either in microwave or in double boiler and stir until smooth, Spread mixture over top of each muffin and let cool to set chocolate. Yields about 24 chews



3 tbsp butter or margarine

1 package Jet-Puffed marshmallows

6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

4 drops red food colouring

24 drops yellow food colouring, divided


Microwave butter in large microwave bowl on high for 45 seconds. Add marshmallows: toss to coat. Microwave 1½ mins or until marshmallows are completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring after 45 seconds. Add cereal: mix well.


Pat 1 cup cereal mixture into 3 ½ circle on centre of cutting board sprayed with cooking spray.

Add red food colouring and 12 drops yellow food colouring to 2 cups of remaining cereal mixture: mix well. Tint remaining cereal mixture with remaining yellow food colouring.

Pat orange-coloured cereal mix into 1 ½ wide ring around cereal mix on cutting board. Repeat with yellow-coloured cereal mix. Cool completely.

Cut cereal mixture into 12 wedges. Insert wooden popstick into rounded ends of each wedge.

20 Jet-Puffed marshmallows

3 cups Rice Krispies

10 chewy fruit snack sheets

40 bite sized fish-shaped chewy fruit snacks,


Microwave butter in large microwaveable bowl on high for 45 seconds or until melted. Add marshmallows: toss to coat, Microwave 1 min, 30 secs, or until marshmallows puff, stirring every 45 seconds, until marshmallows are completely melted and mixture is well blended. Stir in cereal.

Unroll fruit snack sheets. Press 3 tbsp cereal mixture onto each sheet within ½ inch of edge. Place 4 fish down centre of each sheet, roll up tightly. Cut each roll-up into 4 pieces.
