After the recent success of the Bayside Big Band concert fundraiser, the James Bay Refugee Initiative has two more events to raise money to help bring a family from the Middle East to Greater Victoria.

First up is a Mediterranean dinner fundraiser, slated for Saturday, June 11, at 6 pm at James Bay United Church. It’s a top-notch dinner and a bargain at that, with all proceeds going to the James Bay Refugee Initiative. On the menu is lamb with green beans, hummus and pita bread, tabouli salad, stuffed peppers, Greek salad, chicken tava, and, for dessert, baklava and pistachio cookies. Tickets are just $25 and available at James Bay United Church or from refugee committee members.

Then on Sunday, June 26, starting at 2 pm, well-known local singer Maria Manna and friends will entertain. Maria Manna is a vocalist/producer/actor, humanitarian and philanthropist. She has helped raise more than $750 million for charities with her performances and fundraising. She has created, produced and performed in Ladies of Blues, Jazz and Gospel, Victoria Gospel Music Festival, and It’s Amore, a tribute to Italian American music and comedy. She is also the recipient of the 2013 Governor General Caring Canadian Award and the 2013 Unlimited Woman of Style Award. Also featured in concert will be the jazzy Craig Henderson Trio and Kim Greenwood. Tickets are $25 and available at James Bay United Church or from refugee committee members.

James Bay United Church is located at 511 Michigan St. (at Menzies). Call 250-384-5821 for tickets or more information.
