Now that Seedy Saturday has come and gone, and the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom, we can safely say that May is just around the corner. And, as always, the first Saturday in May brings with it the excitement of the opening of the James Bay Community Market season. For the twenty-first year in a row, the James Bay Community Market will come to life every Saturday at the corner of Menzies and Superior throughout the summer season. This year, we also welcome back the very successful Breakwater Market every Sunday from June 19 – August 14.

Whether you are a long time resident or newly arrived in the neighbourhood, the James Bay Community Market is a great place to get to know your neighbours. After stocking up on your weekly groceries, be sure to take the time to grab a cup of coffee and some delicious food, and sit and listen to some of Victoria’s finest musicians.

This year you will find some of your favourite returning vendors as well as plenty of new ones. The James Bay Community Market is the place to buy all things hand made or home grown. Remember though, the James Bay Community Market and The Breakwater Market are always open to new vendors, so if you’re a creative type, be sure to talk to the market managers about joining the market(s) as a vendor.

So, mark your calendars for the start of market season on May 7. The James Bay Market at the corner of Superior and Menzies (yes, we will still be at our usual spot despite local development) will be open 9am-3pm every Saturday, rain or shine. And, starting June 19, The Breakwater Market will be open every Sunday from 11am – 4pm. Plenty of parking, and easy access for strollers and walkers at both markets.
