Tucked away in James Bay Square (425 Simcoe St.) is a little known gem of a shop; The Community Closet Thrift Store. Nestled beside Second Chance, this is James Bay’s community thrift store, full to the brim with incredible high end and gently used clothes, (mainly women’s and some men’s), shoes and jewellery.

The Community Closet has been part of the James Bay landscape for 10 plus years and current manager, Susan Henderson, has been running the thrift store since April 2013. The stock in the store is generously donated by My Sister’s Closet (Fairfield Plaza) and Twice as Nice (Oak Bay), so the quality of clothes is fantastic.

The clothes in the store are regularly rotated and marked down. At the end of every month, the previous month’s stock is marked down by 50%.....and at the same time the $2 rack is replenished. This makes the Community Closet a true bargain hunter’s paradise and very affordable.

The Community Closet is run by volunteers and all proceeds go to supporting programs at the James Bay Community Project; programs that help isolated seniors and adults with disabilities living in your community as well as children, youth and families.

Many people in the community aren’t aware of the Community Closet and Henderson says that at least once a week she hears, “I didn’t know you were here!” So pop by and see what’s in the Closet….who knows what treasure you might find tucked away on the racks.
