James Bay is, without a doubt, one of the nicest neighbourhoods in the CRD. Beautiful heritage homes, magnificent gardens, fragrant tree-lined streets, perfect location with easy access to Fisherman’s Wharf, the Breakwater, Beacon Hill Park and downtown. And then there’s the ocean! The fresh sea breezes, the eagle and other sightings... perfect... unless you’re a dog.

There is nowhere in James Bay where dogs can run, play and socialize with other dogs. East of Mile Zero is the nearest dog park. This means many dog owners must rely on a car to meet their dog physical and social needs or they risk being ticketed if they choose to play with their dog closer to home. With tons of green space and a vast beach coastline, I never understood this short- coming.

I love James Bay, but I don’t drive or support car-dependent lifestyles and I have a dog. So I had to leave that paradise neighbourhood and move to a dog- friendly one. Now we’re a ten minute walk to a wonderful off-leash park making our lives much easier and happier. I would move rather than get rid of my dog.
