Letter - Where to take my dog?

I live in James Bay and have an active young dog. I don't really mind driving to Oak Bay or Saanich or Sidney or Esquimalt or Langford to run her. There are some excellent trails and what's an extra hour or so daily in the car?

I would, however, like to take her somewhere closer to home occasionally, somewhere I can let her off leash.

Beacon Hill Park is out; I cannot tell you the number of times we have come across human faeces, needles, KFC debris. Dallas Road is a problem as well. The forested parts are used as toilets, there are often people sleeping in that gazebo overlooking the sea and the rest of the path is too close to the road. MacDonald Park is covered with Canada Goose poop.

I guess I could go to Clover Point below the cliffs.....there are usually a few loiterers with dogs but it is okay if you don't go alone.

There is an obvious solution - get rid of my dog.  I don't want to do that. Any other suggestions?
