Construction began with demolition, and the little community garden on Michigan Street was no more. The old, brown historic house on Superior, was moved to sit where the little community garden on Michigan once grew luscious vegetables. Bricks from the chimney and foundation were stacked neatly on skids. The backhoe smashed down one of the portables, and scooped up debris like a hungry monster into dumpsters, to be spirited away in the morning. Even the one and only tree on Superior was ripped out by its roots by the merciless backhoe. Cement and blacktop was ripped up, and taken away in dump trucks. The site appears to be clear to start construction now. In the months to come, we will see the beginning of the multi-use community being built by Concert Jawl Properties on the corner of Superior and Menzies Streets. We can only hope that what is to come, will improve our unique little community. Progress moves on!
