Incomer Musings…
Sep 2015
By Louise Froggett
So, everybody...
It's Saturday afternoon and I am hemming my husband's new pants. He is sitting at the computer doing, whatever. The weather is really nice, so the windows and balcony door are open and I can hear all the happy outdoor activity out on Dallas Road. Suddenly, there seems to be a bit of a commotion out there; some honking and shouting. I'm picturing a wedding party in some kind of odd vehicle, so I go out onto the balcony to have a look. That's not what was going on.
There are a bunch of cyclists – maybe 30 or so – and they are naked. OK, this is something different. So, I look into the living room and call my husband to come and have a look. He doesn't hear me (his hearing aids are in their holder beside him). So, I clap...nothing. Now I'm shouting "woohoo" and waving frantically at him, but absolutely nothing. So, I run across the living room, grab his arm, stare into his face and tell him to go outside and look. NOW! So, he trots (sort of) out onto the balcony and...stares at the water. Nooo! Look down. So, he looks over to Holland Point Park and starts searching for the deer that must be over there. Nooo! Then, just in the nick of time, he looks down at the cyclists. "Oh, I guess we have a race, eh?", he says. "Did you actually look at them? Look closely", I tell him, but it's too late. By now, they have disappeared behind the trees and gotten away.
So, I explain the whole thing to him and he is aghast that he missed something so interesting. It doesn't help that he was out there without his glasses, or his hearing aids. At least he had his clothes on, or he could have gone for a ride too.
Another day in paradise.
