When you join a group of people waiting for the Walk signal at a crossroad, do you:
a) push the button despite knowing that everyone there has probably already pushed it?
b) wait a minute then push it again because the light is slow in responding?
c) wait patiently or impatiently for the Walk signal to light up?
d) check the road both ways and step into the crosswalk without waiting for the Walk signal?
If you are:
Type a), what does this say about your personality?
You’re the type of person who feels if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself … maybe the other folk didn’t push the button the right way … and another push can’t hurt?
Type b), what does this say about your personality?
You feel everyone and everything, including traffic signals, need an extra nudge or the job won’t get done - and perhaps if you push the button twice it will work twice as fast? Really?
Type c), what does this say about your personality?
You roll with Life’s punches… you stop when Life says stop, you go when Life says go, either patiently or impatiently, but you obey the rules.
Type d), what does this say about your personality?
You feel that only faint hearts and mothers pushing babies in prams need to wait for the Walk signal… you are not going to be controlled by a traffic signal, or anything else. With luck you won’t get run over by oncoming traffic.
So what does your method of crossing the road tell you about yourself? It tells you that you are either a law abiding citizen or someone who takes the law into his (mostly his!) own hands.
Next time you wait for the Walk signal at a cross walk, observe your own (and other people’s behaviour) … and learn. It’ll help pass the time and maybe stop you pushing the button again. And again….
