The Medications Return Program
Surplus medications requiring disposal pose a risk to small children, pets, and wildlife and must not be simply tossed in with the kitchen garbage to make their way to the Hartland landfill. Once in the landfill they can breakdown and leach into the natural hydrologic systems leading to the oceans. The safe thing to do is to take your unwanted medications to a pharmacy participating in the Medications Return Program (MRP).
The MRP provides a collective response by the pharmaceutical industry to recycling regulations. The program includes provision for all prescription and non-prescription drugs meant for human use. Medications meant for your pet are not included in program.
