Treok Walker uses Ash Can to dispose of a cigarette butt |
Card players taking a break outside the James Bay New Horizons Activity Centre. An Ash Can installed by Surfrider Foundation Vancouver Island Chapter. The Ash Can is to help reduce the amount of cigarette butt litter. Cigarette butts will be collected and combined with the butts being collected and recycled by the Clean Team of downtown Victoria through the Hold Onto Your Butt campaign. So far, over 130,000 cigarette butts have been diverted as a result of that campaign. Cigarette butts are sent away to be recycled into industrial plastic.
Kim Dixon, Executive Director: The Board of James Bay New Horizons enthusiastically approved the installation of the Butt can at their December Board meeting. We are pleased to be able to offer this safe and effective way for people in the community to dispose of their cigarette butts.”
