James Bay New Horizons
By Kim Dixon
As we approach the holiday season and look forward to a new year, it is time to look back at the year past and forward to the year ahead.
As I reflect on the past few months, it has been a really exciting year preparing for celebrations (the 40th Anniversary, James Bay Day, Open House) and upcoming events.
Our annual Christmas Craft Fair reminds me that Christmas is just around the corner. Once Thanksgiving is over, time just flies by. If you missed the Fall Tea and Bazaar, you have a second chance to pick up some fine, homemade Christmas items on Saturday, November 29. There will be Christmas decorations, knitted items, and kitchen items including dishcloths, hand towels, jar grippers and much more. These make wonderful stocking stuffers, gifts for the mailman, or just a nice gift for you.
Our 40 Anniversary gave us time to reflect upon the hard work and dedication that the founding members gave to the Society. Who would have imagined that buying an old house, selling just the house (keeping the property), having it moved to one of the Gulf Islands, and having a meeting hall built on the property would lead to several additions that when completed would be a 8000 square foot building including several programming rooms enabling us to schedule a variety of programs and activities including art, handicrafts, discussion groups, Zumba classes, as they say everything from A-Z!
With winter coming, it is a time for us to make a special effort to get out and enjoy some fresh, brisk air and take the opportunity to meet new people, have some fun and perhaps learn something new, anything to chase away the winter blues!
We are gearing up for Christmas and our members will be celebrating the season kicking off with our annual Puttin’ On The Glitz Fashion Show, followed by Christmas Cracker, our Volunteer and Senior Reassurance Tea and then Christmas Dinner. What a month!
We hope you will have the opportunity to pick up one of 2015 calendars. Each month is represented by a picture taken in and around James Bay. These make great Christmas presents but we must let you know that there is a limited quantity.
January, we will be hosting our Winter Open House on Saturday, January 17. This will be your opportunity to get your 2015 membership and register early for programs and classes.
On behalf of the members, Board of Directors and staff we would like to wish you and your family a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
